Dubai has announced a collaboration with Elon Musk's Boring Company to develop the 'Dubai Loop,' an underground transportation system designed to connect the city's most densely populated areas. The announcement was made by Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, during a plenary session with Musk at the World Governments Summit.
The Dubai Loop aims to provide seamless point-to-point travel across the city, significantly reducing commute times and alleviating surface-level traffic congestion. Musk described the project as "like a wormhole—you just wormhole from one part of the city, boom, and you're out in another part of the city."
The Boring Company has previously implemented similar underground transportation systems, notably the Las Vegas Convention Centre Loop, which features a 1.7-mile tunnel network connecting key areas of the convention center. This system utilizes Tesla vehicles to transport passengers efficiently between stations.
While specific details about the Dubai Loop's design, timeline, and routes have yet to be disclosed, this partnership marks a significant step forward in Dubai's efforts to enhance urban mobility and solidify its position as a leader in innovative transportation solutions.
